Victoria McNulty is a poet and spoken word performer based in Glasgow. Her new collection ‘Exiles’ takes a snapshot of Glasgow during the Iraq war and tells the story of a young couple fighting for their life at home and abroad.

Pre-order open now. Zoom launch on the 22nd of October.

Bold, honest and hard-hitting, McNulty draws on her own direct lived experience as a young mother and worker, shining a light on the corners of society so often neglected by mainstream literature and media.

The Barmaid

It’ll keep raining no doubt.
Just as well I haven’t straightened my hair
And gave up the snout
He didn’t like it anyway
He said it made me smell
Would sallow my saccharine smile
He’s so sweet to go that extra mile
To keep me right

There’s no way Converse are water tight.
A river runs up the bus
Every time a corner’s turned
Its banks burst and horns sound
Shallows run aground
I ground my feet on the seat
Lest they drown
It’s twelve till close
Unless it comes to blows
Trench foot would come quicker
Than last orders
On a night like this
